SABIA - CMS WEBSITE

SABIA - CMS WEBSITE

In 2010 we stepped into a very dangerous and unknown arena… the mind of a bride! We were asked by SABIA – South African Bridal Industry Awards to develop a Content Management System for them that they could run and manage without any help from any webmaster or administrator. This system needed to do everything from blogging, to plugging into the latest Social Networking apps to managing banner advertising to e-commerse services and then some…
We quickly came to the table with a solution specific to the needs of SABIA and completely out did our original brief.

2010 is already on fire

Well, we all knew that 2010 was going to be on the up-n-up, but I never thought it would explode as quickly as it has. Is it incredibly exciting and already the buzz in the air is so contagious. All this being said, I haven’t even begun to touch on the Soccer world cup hype. If you are one of those people that would rather get out of SA when the whole world is here, don’t be daft… this is going to be one of the most exciting times of your life.

As for VEE STATION, we would like to thank every one of our clients for the good times throughout 2009 and for keeping us going. This year is going to be even more electric. It is not even the middle of the month and already we have managed to secure some great projects and clients. Everything from digital campaigns, to CI design. We have also got a new client service person starting, but will introduce her when that time comes.

Thank you for reading our blog as well, subscribe to it and you won’t be sorry. Keep up with us on Twitter as well and maybe one day we’ll work together too.

Thats all from me for now: Peter Vee

MANGO – CLICK AND FLY MOBI SITE

vee_station_work_mango2

MANGO AIRLINES: Mobi site
I don’t know about you, but I am glued to my phone all day long. The minute I am stuck in traffic, away from my computer, making coffee, whatever it is… I am on my phone, Tweeting, FB’ing or whatever else is going. You only have to look in your mirror when stuck in traffic and see the guy behind you is doing exactly the same thing…
When we got down to the nitty gritty of developing the Click and Fly online game for MANGO AiRLINES, the real exciting bit was developing the MOBI site as the nature of the game was to click your way to victory in the fastest time. We love developing MOBI sites and apps… VEE heart MOBI.

Why is the world in need of GREAT DESIGN!?

Growing up in a country with so many diverse cultures and styles in art, design, theater and culture I find that South African design has the ability or influence to be the best or among the best in the world. This would be true if everybody understood design and the need of design in our society. Often the concept of graphic design to any student of the trade is creating awesome looking posters or pretty CD covers. As creatives we are constantly influenced by what we see around us and the influences we come in contact with, everything from music, tv, movies, magazines, other designers around the globe and our general sense perceptions. The very reason have been influenced by these designers means that they have done an exceptional job. It is what we do with our creativity that counts, as merely plagiarizing another design is just not going to cut it, no matter how pretty it looks.

i spent 2 years in London just 3 years into my design career and battled with concept of ‘good design.’ I understood the concept of pretty pictures and making beautiful designs, but the true cognitive power of design was the last thing on my mind. Every other English designer seemed to have it wired because right from the word go, they had the concept and power of ‘why we design’ drummed into their heads.

I read a quote that went something like this: “Design is the most immediate way of defining what products become in people’s minds.”
This spoke volumes to me as a Creative and owner of my own design agency, as I feel that as designers we have the power at our creative fingertips to influence, mold, and create perceptions that were never once there or might have been skewed. This is one thing that I try and communicate everytime one of my designers has a concept or is trying to conceptualize.

For far too long, designers aren’t respected for having the ability to create and this is directly evident by the minimal wage in their back pockets. The whole market has changed over the past 5 years, due to designers with a 1 year course in Core Draw that think they are designers yet havent really concieved the meaning and flair for design flooding the market. Unfortunately a lot of clients will settle for this in the hope that a pretty picture will do the job. Unfortunately often times this proves to do more damage to a product.

We need great design in this world, as this is VISUAL COMMUNICATION. i think in this country with so many languages and cultures, the true meaning of design has to be COMMUNICATION THROUGH VISUAL STIMULATION. It has to be. Complicated pretty pictures just is not going to cut it. Peter Vee
